His name was James. He was a plumber by trade, in Moffatt, Scotland. According to the certificate viewed at Donald Hepburn's home in Red Deer, he was accepted into the "worshipful fellowship of plumbers" in 1888. His brother David (?) was a baker in the same town, and reportedly there is a Hepburn bakery remaining in the town to this day. He moved to Canada in 1908 where he established himself in his trade in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan for many years. He had brothers Miller, Ewen, and a sister Tina. There are descendents of the brother, Miller Hepburn, living in Ancaster, Ontario, perhaps practicing in the medical profession.
